The establishment of the KACST Technology Innovation Centre on Carbon Capture and Sequestration (KACST-TIC on CCS) at King Fahd University of Petroleum & Minerals (KFUPM) by the King Abdulaziz City for Science & Technology (KACST) is a seminal national initiative. Achieving world-class excellence is only possible when human and material resources are particularly invested on strategically focused research areas. Accordingly, KACST-TIC on CCS commits to focus on strategic research areas of high relevance to Saudi Arabia in carbon capture and its subsequent sequestration with a view to (a) achieving world-class excellence (in collaboration with other national and international universities/research organizations), (b) making quality change, and (c) contributing effectively to undertake well-defined focused projects. The research team in the centre will make all efforts that KACST-TIC on CCS , in due course of time, enormously benefit all national and international parties working in energy and environment. This will positively impact the programs of graduate study, basic and applied/contract research, and culture of innovation and intellectual property, and add value to the national R&D culture in the area of energy and environment.

My best thanks are due to the King Abdulaziz City for Science & Technology, H.E. the Rector, and Vice Rector for Applied Research, and to all faculty members who participated in getting the proposal for the KACST-TIC on CCS successful.
